EGYPT GETS A MESSAGE FROM GOD

Ezekiel   Chapter 29

A message came to Ezekiel from God telling him to give a prophecy to Egypt against the Pharaoh and all of the people of Egypt. It said that God was now their enemy and would lurk in the Nile waiting to put hooks in their jaws and drag the people out like fish. He would leave all the fish in the desert to die, unburied on open ground.

God said the Egyptians collapsed like a reed when Israel looked to them for help. So now the Lord would bring an army against Egypt and it would destroy the people and land and animals. All this because the Pharoah said the River Nile was his and he made it. So for the next 40 years not a soul would pass through Egypt. It would be uninhabited and desolate.

But the Lord further said that at the end of the forty years, he would bring the Egyptians home again from the nations to which they had been scattered and prosperity would come back to Egypt. But it would never again be an important kingdom, only a minor one. Then Israel will no longer be tempted to trust in Egypt for help.

Then the Lord said that the army of Nebuchadnezzar fought hard against Tyre and the warriors' heads were rubbed bare and their shoulders raw and blistered. Yet they won no plunder to compensate them for all their work. So the Lord would give the land of Egypt to Nebuchanezzar and he could carry off their wealth and plunder to pay his army. This was a reward for his work because Nebuchadnezzar was working for the Lord when he destroyed Tyre.

HOW DOES THIS CHAPTER RELATE TO US TODAY? The river Nile was a source of great pride and joy to Egypt. The Egyptians claimed to have made it. Their statement were boasting and showed pride.

In our modern times, we often take for granted what God has given us. God provides us with resources, no matter how much hard work and effort we put into it, he supplies the resources. So even in our times, we should always give God credit and proclaim his greatness, not our own.

Yours in Christ,
Mary
