EZEKIEL CHAPTERS 30 and 31
In these chapters,God is giving another message to Ezekiel to tell of how because of Egypt's pride and idolatry, he would bring them down.
He says that Egypt's wealth will all be carried away and its foundations destroyed. Also the lands of Ethiopia, Libya, Lydia and Arabia and all their allies would also be destroyed.
He says that he will do all this by using King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon to destroy the hordes of Egypt. His army would make war and slaughter the Egyptians. Also God would dry up the Nile River and smash the idols and images at Memphis. He would further destroy Pathros, Zoan and Thebes and they would lie in ruins. and during the 11th year of King Jehoichin's captivity, the Pharoah's arms would be broken, while his kingdom is destroyed.
Then on April 29 in the eleventh year of King Jehoiachin's captivity, the Lord sent a message to Ezekiel to give to the Pharoah, in which he tells the Pharoah about the great cedars of Lebanon which was strong and beautiful. And its roots went into abundant water and it was the envy of all the other trees of Eden. But because it became proud and arrogant, the Lord destroyed it, cut it down and left it lay.
And the Lord compared Lebanon to Egypt in its falling from grace as he tells Egypt of its fate.
HOW DOES THIS CHAPTER RELATE TO US TODAY? God was busy destroying Egypt's military superiority. He allowed certain nations to rise to power to accomplish a purpose. We should not worry when we read about armies and wars because we need to remember that God is in charge. In fact, we should pray for our military leaders and government leaders. Can you see God at work in wars and military actions around the world in our time? He is always there. He is our ultimate leader and savior and we must trust his knowledge and foresight.
Yours in Christ,
Mary
