Tyre's Glory Ends

EZEKIEL   CHAPTER 27

The Lord sent a message to Ezekiel that he should give a message to Tyre, the gateway to the sea and trading center of the world. She had builders who made her perfect in beauty and she was like a ship built of the finest cypress from Senir. Her deck was of pine inlaid with ivory and sails made from Egypt's finest linens. Her oarsmen came from Sidan and Arvad and her helmsmen were skilled men from Tyre. The Lord goes on to describe how only the finest wares were traded in her markets and she was full of wealthy offerings from Arabian horses to gems and fine embroidery.

But the Lord warned that Tyre was headed into a hurricane and would flounder shipwrecked until all was lost. And at last the skilled helmsmen would stand on shore and weep at the wreck she became. And they would sing a funeral song (verses 32 -36).

HOW DOES THIS CHAPTER RELATE TO US TODAY? Tyre's beauty was a source of pride and this pride would bring it's judgment from God. In our times, conceit and pride in our own accomplishments are danger signals.

God does not mind us taking pleasure or satisfaction in what we do or create. But he is against arrogance and pride that looks down on others. We must remember HE is in charge. HE is the source of our life and all things we owe to HIM.

Yours in Christ,
Mary
