David tells of God's Temple plan

I Chronicles Chapter 28

David summoned all his officials to Jerusalem as well as his military leaders, overseers, palace officials and warriors. He stood before them and announced that God had decided not to let him build the Temple. He explained to everyone that God chose him from all of his father's family to be king over Israel forever and he chose Solomon to rule and build the Temple.

David urged Solomon to get to know the God of his ancestors and he gave Solomon the plans of the Temple and its surroundings, courtyards and other rooms. David also gave Solomon instructions concerning the work of divisions of priests and Levites in the Temple. And he designated the amount of gold for various items to be used and the amount of silver to be used in utensils. Further, he designated the gold for the altar and gold cherubim to be used over the Ark of the Covenant. David told Solomon that every part of the plan was given to him in writing from the Lord.

Then David said for everyone to be strong and courageous and do the work on the temple and not be discouraged by the size of the task because the Lord was with them and would not fail or forsake them.

BIBLE NOTES SHOW: The kingdom of Israel belonged to the Lord, not David or anyone else. And God could decide who should rule the nation and did not follow customary lines of succession. David was not Saul's heir and Solomon was not David's oldest son, but God appointed them.

HOW DOES THIS CHAPTER RELATE TO US TODAY? David told Solomon to not be afraid of the size of his huge task ahead. Fear can immobilize us. Have you ever faced a task so daunting that you were frozen with fear? In this chapter, the remedy is clear: Focus on the work, getting started is the most difficult part, but God is with you and will not forsake you even in these modern times.

Yours in Christ,
Mary
