I Chronicles Chapter 29
After he had gathered all the officials in Israel, David told them about his son Solomon and the fact God had chosen Solomon to be the next king and to build the Temple. He told them of the many resources he had collected to assist Solomon in this endeavor. Then the family leaders, leaders of the tribes and officials of the military all gave willingly to help in building the Temple and David was filled with joy.
Then David praised the Lord in front of the assembly and his prayer, which is beautiful, is given in verses 10 through 20 - and I hope you will read it yourself.
The next day thouands of bulls, rams and lambs were brought to the Lord as burnt offereings. Also drink offerings and many other sacrifices were brought that day and the people feasted in the Lord's presence. They crowned Solomon as the new king that day and anointed him before the Lord as their new leader and anointed Zadok as their priest. All the royal officials and military commanders pledged their loyalty to King Solomon.
So David, son of Jesse, reigned over all Israel for forty years in all, seven years from Hebron and thirty-three from Jerusalem.
BIBLE NOTES SHOW: Some might think that David was a man obsessed with a church building. However, David made sure the people understood that the Temple was for the Lord God himself. And David gave of his own personal fortune to the Temple.
When in verse 15, David says "we are here for only a moment, visitors and strangers in the land as our ancestors were before us. Our Days on earth are like a shadow, gone so soon without a trace", it shows that nothing lasts unless it is rooted in God's unchanging character A relationship with God is the only thing permanent.
HOW DOES THIS CHAPTER RELATE TO US TODAY? This is the last chapter in 1 Chronicles. David's legacy resulted in his vital relationship with the Lord. And he passed his values down to his son Solomon. In your final chapters, will you be able to say the same thing? Are you satisfied that you have a relationship with the Lord? It is never to late to begin that relationship. Just sincerely ask the Lord into your heart. And then begin to pass your values down to your children.
This chapter also values genealogy. My favorite hobby and an important part of spiritual heritage.
Praise be to God!!
Yours in Christ,
Mary
