David's chosen leaders

I Chronicles Chapter 27

Verses 2 through 15 list the names of the Israelite generals, captains and their officers who served King David. Each division served for one month and had twenty-four thousand troops.Verses 16 through 22 lists the leaders of the Tribes of Israel.

When David took his census, he did not count those who were younger than twenty because the Lord promised to make the Israelites as numerous as the stars in heaven. Joab began the census but did not finish it, because it angered God. Verses 25 through 31 list the officials of David' kingdom. Jonathan,David's uncle was a wise counselor to the king, a man of insight and a scribe. Jehiel the Hacmonite was responsible to teach the king's sons. Ahithophel was a royal advisor. Hushai the Arkite was the king's friend. Ahithophel was succeeded by Jehoiada, son of Benaiah and by Abiathar. Joab was commander of the army.

BIBLE NOTES SHOW: King David's official records were historical documents kept in the royal archives with other official documents.

When Absalom rebelled against David, Ahithophel betrayed David and joined the rebellion. Hushai pretended loyalty to Absalom, and his advice caused Absalom's downfall.

HOW DOES THIS CHAPTER RELATE TO US TODAY? All men in positions of power and heads of nations must keep a group of loyal advisors around them. Our leaders today do so too. These men can make or break a nation. Can make or break a leader. Can make significant changes to a nation. So it is imperative that they be knowledgeable and loyal without any doubt. Do you think this kind of advisor is easy to find? Hardly. Perhaps we need to find some that have a Christian background. Good idea? I think so and am sure you do too. Praise God that we find religious men who are not afraid of public service!

Yours in Christ,
Mary
