Judgements against other nations

Ezekiel     Chapter  25

The Lord sent a message to Ezekiel in which he asked him to look toward the land of Ammon and to prophesy against its people. The Lord said the Ammonites scoffed at his Temple when it was destroyed and mocked Israel in her desolation and laughed at Judah as she went into exile. And so the Lord would send people to set up camps among the Ammonites and overrun their country and harvest all their fruit and steal their livestock. And the city of Rabbah will become a pasture for camels. And because the Ammonites laughed with glee at the destruction of the Lord's people, he would cut them off from being a nation and destroy them completely.

And the Lord also wiped out the people of Moab because they were just like all the other nations and thus he would bring his judgement down on them too.

And the people of Edom sinned greatly by avenging themselves against the people of Judah. So the Lord would pass judgment on the people of Edom and make their people and their land a wasteland.

And the people of Philistia, said the Lord, had acted against Judah out of revenge and contempt and so he would find judgement aginst them and wipe out the Kerethites and destroy the people who live by the sea.

HOW DOES THIS CHAPTER RELATE TO US TODAY? God kept track of the reasons these seven nations which surrounded Judah, would be wiped out. These were not just vengeful statements, but had reasons behind them and they failed to acknowledge the one true God. The Ammorites were judged because of their joy over the desecration of the Temple. the Moabites because they found pleasure in Judah's wickedness. The Edomites because of the racial hatred for the Jews. The Philistines because they sought revenge against Judah for defeating them in battle. These nations were all just as sinful as Judah.

I find it hard to compare this chapter with what happens in our world today. Except maybe some nations delight when other nations suffer failures. It is just as sinful to snicker over the color of the skin of a nation as it is to make fun of other peoples who do not have the updated technology that others have. Pray that we can all rise above the nit-pickey that is in all of us.

Yours in Christ,
Mary
