Speaking out against false prophets

EZEKIEL    CHAPTER 13

A message came to Ezekiel from the Lord and it told him to speak against the false prophets of Isreal who were inventing their own prophecies.

The Lord said destruction would be certain for these false prophets. For they were like jackals digging around in the ruins and had done nothing to strengthen the breaks in the walls around the nation. They had not helped it to stand firm in battle and lied when they said their messages were from the Lord.

Therefore, the Lord said that because they told false stories and visions were a lie, he would stand against them and his fist would be raised against all the lying prophets and they would be banished from Israel and their names blotted out from Isreal's record books.

The Lord said these evil prophets deceived the people by telling them all was peaceful, when there was really no peace at all! The Lord called them "whitewashers" and soon their walls would fall down when a heavy rainstorm with hailstones and wind would knock everything down. And the Lord would break down the walls to the foundations. Then when the wall and those who whitewashed are gone, the lying prophets would come to Jerusalem where there was no peace.

Further, the Lord asked Ezekiel to speak out against women who prophesy from their own imaginations. God would not allow them to ensare the souls of the people and tie charms on their wrists and use magic veils. By lying to his people, God says these women kill those who should not die. So the Lord would tear  apart the magic charms and magic veils and save people from their grasp.

BIBLE NOTES SHOW: In the Bible, the gift of prophesy was given to women as well as men. Miriam, Deborah and Huldah were all prophets.

HOW DOES THIS CHAPTER RELATE TO US TODAY? Do you see that we have many false prophets in our world today? Some of them preach "feel good" philosophy and tell people that they deserve to feel good about their lives and that no danger is near. Because they lie to us and bend the truth to fit their agenda, it is often hard for people to spot the real false prophets. These pretenders tell us what we want to hear - that everything is good and fine. While all along they are on a quest for popularity and power.
The lies these pretenders tell cannot escape the scrutiny of the Lord. Stay true to the message from the Lord.

Yours in Christ,
Mary
