Ezekiel Chapter 21
God gave the message to Ezekiel that asked him to prophesy against Israel and tell her that he was her enemy and was about to unsheath his sword to destroy her people - the righteous and the wicked alike. No one would be spared. He told Ezekiel to groan when he delivered the message and when they ask why he groaned, to tell them that it is because of the terrifying news he heard. Tell them that the Lord's sword will flash like lightning.
Then the Lord told Ezekiel to cry out and wail and pound his thighs in anguish because the people would all die. And finally he asked Ezekiel to make a map and put two routes on it for the king of Babylon to follow, and put a signpost on the road out of Babylon where the road forks. Then the king would have his magicians cast lots to decide how to turn toward Jerusalem.
The Lord tells the people of Jerusalem that they are not ashamed of their sins nor try to hide them. So on final day of reckoning, take off the jeweled crown. The lowly are now exalted and the mighty are brought low. And the Lord will not restore anything until the one appears who has the right to judge it.
Concerning the prophesy of the Ammonites and their mockery, give them the message that his sword was drawn for their slaughter. Magicians and false prophets gave false visions and told lies about the sword. So he will destroy them in heir own country and hand them over to cruel men who are skilled in destruction.
HOW DOES THIS CHAPTER RELATE TO US TODAY? God's judgment is designed to purify; destruction is often a necessary part of that process. But don't ever forget that he gives people a chance to repent and gain forgiveness.
Yours in Christ,
Mary
