Messages from the Lord

EZEKIEL     CHAPTER 6

Ezekiel heard a message come from the Lord which told him to look toward the mountains of Israel and prophesy against them and also to give them a message from the Lord.  The Lord tells the mountains, hills, ravines an valleys that he would bring war upon them and would destroy the pagan shrines. All altars would be demolished and incense altars smashed and he would kill all the people in front of these idols.

But the Lord would let a few people escape destruction and they would be scattered among the nations of the world. Then they would remember the Lord and see how grieved the Lord was by their unfaithful hearts.

The Lord says to them to clap their hands in horror and stamp their feet and cry out "Alas!". Because of all the evil that the people of Israel did, now they were going to die from war, famine and disease. Then they would know that I am the Lord.

BIBLE NOTES SHOW: The phrase "then they will know that I am the Lord", appears 65 times in the book of Ezekiel.

HOW DOES THIS CHAPTER RELATE TO US TODAY? The purpose of God's punishment was not to take revenge, but to impress on the people that he is the only true and living God. You might think we don't have idols to worship today. But we do! Our idols are money, sex. and power.

Even in our times, punishment will come upon those who put "things" ahead of God. Remember that God may use the difficulties of your life to teach you that he alone is God.

Pray for our friend Michelle who was diagnosed with a form of MS.

Pray for Robert Sargent who is quite ill with lung cancer.

Pray for Gary Summers, my friend from church, who has cancer.

Pray too for Charly’s husband Robert who has been undergoing chemo. Pray also for Charly who longs to be 100 percent again and walk without an aid.

Pray for James’s sister Cynthia whose chemo has lost its effect as the cancer grows powerful.

SUPPORT: Pray for our country’s leaders and our military people who die each day for our freedom. Pray for our farmers and those who raise livestock during this terrible drought. Pray for us consumers who will face higher grocery prices and the poor who won’t be able to adjust what little budget they have.
