I Chronicles Chapter 6
In verses 1 though 30 appear the descendants of the priestly line of Levi. I hope you will read the list on your own.
Verses 31 through 48 list the Temple musicians. Remember that David assigned men to lead music at the house of the Lord after he put the Ark there. They ministered music there at the Tabernacle until Solomon built the Temple of the Lord in Jerusalem. Then they carried on their work following all the regulations handed down to them. The Levites also were appointed to various tasks in the Tabernacle.
The descendants of Aaron were Eleazar, Phinehas, Abishua, Bukki, Uzzi, Zerahiah, Meraioth, Amariah, Ahitub, Zadock and Ahimaaz. The record of town and territories assigned by means of sacred lots to the descendants of Aaron who were from the clan of Kohath. These are found in verses 54 though 81.
BIBLE NOTES SHOW: The tribe of Levi was set apart to serve God in the Tabernacle and later the Temple. God required all future priests to be descendants of Aaron.
David did much to bring music into worship. He established songleaders and choirs to perform. He also wrote many of the songs found in the book of Psalms.
In giving out towns and territories, the Levites were not given a specific area because they were to live throughout the land in order to aid the people in their worshp. So they were given pasturelands within the allotted areas of other tribes. God designated cities of refuge to provide for a person who accidentally killed someone. The Israelites cast lots in order to make giving of land and towns fair. This was like drawing straws or throwing dice and was done after seeking God's guidance in prayer.
HOW DOES THIS CHAPTER RELATE TO US TODAY? I choose to point out the importance of the musicians in the Temple. I will not look at the choir in my church again without thinking of king David. These people gave their talents for God and goes to show that you need not be an ordained minister to have an important part in the worship. Builders, craftsmen also gave of their talents. What is your talent(s) today? You are unique and God loves you. Use your talents to serve and honor God.
Yours in Christ,
Mary
