Descendants of Benjamin and Saul

I Chronicles Chapter 8

The sons of Benjamin were Bela, Ashbel, Ahrah, Nohah, and Rapha. The sons of his sons are listed in verses 3 through 28.

The family of Saul was Jeiel(father of Gibeon) whose sons were Abdon, Zur, Kish, Baal, Ner. Nadab, Gedor, Ahio, Zechariah and Mikloth. They all lived near each other in Jerusalem. Ner was the father of Kish. Kish was the father of Saul.

Saul's sons were Jonathan, Malkishua, Abinadab, and Eshbaal. The line of descent is found in verses 34 though 37.

Azel had six sons, Azrikam, Bokeru, Ishmael,Sheariah, Obadiah, and Hanan.

BIBLE NOTES SHOW: In verses 8-10 Shaharaim's divorced his two wives and took a new wife. Divorce and polygamy are sometimes recorded in the Old Testament without critical comments. This does not mean God takes divorce lightly. Jesus explained that although divorce was allowed, it was not God's will.

HOW DOES THIS CHAPTER RELATE TO US TODAY? Don't assume that God approves an act because it isn't vigorously condemned in every related Bible reference. In other words, divorce is just as wrong today in most cases, even though it is widespread. In a manner of speaking, God was "pro-marriage". He intended a husband and wife to stay together and remain faithful to each other. Have you noticed these days that there seems to be a wave of "anti- marriage" in our country and in many countries? One person (who has been divorced twice) said to me that "well the Bible is old and those laws have changed with the times". NO NO! THE BIBLE IS AS RELEVANT TODAY AS IT WAS IN ANCIENT TIMES! God didn't write a new group of laws. The old ones still stand. I was divorced. I am ashamed that I did not stick with my husband of many years. But God brought us back together and I like to think he forgave us. In fact, I know he forgave us. He is a forgiving God.

Yours in Christ,
Mary
