EZEKIEL CHAPTER 10
As Ezekiel was in the Temple, he saw a throne of blue sapphire above the crystal surface over the heads of the cherubim. And the Lord spoke to the man in linen clothing and told him to go between the whirling wheels under the cherubim and take a handful of glowing coals and scatter them over the city. The man did as instructed and Ezekiel watched. Then the cherubim were standing at the south end of the Temple and the man went in, and the cloud of glory filled the inner courtyard. Then the glory of the Lord rose up from the cherubim and went to the door of the Temple and it was filled with a cloud of glory and the courtyeard glowed with the glory of the Lord. The wings of the cherubim sounded like the voice of God Almighty and could be heard clearly in the outer courtyard.
Then the Lord instructed the man in linen to again to between the cherubim and take coals from between the wheels. So he did and one of the cherubim reached out his hand and took live coals and put them into the man's hands and the man took them and went out.
Each of the four cherubim had a wheel beside him and the wheels sparkled like chrysolite. All four wheels looked the same and each wheel had a second wheel turning crosswise within it. The cherubim could move forward or any of four directions the faced, without turning as they moved. They went straight in the direction in which their heads were turned. Both the cherubim and the wheels were covered with eyes. The cherubim had eyes all over their bodies, including their hands, backs and wings.
Ezekiel heard someone refer to the wheels as the"the whirling wheels'. Each of the four cherubim had four faces, the first was a face of an ox, the second was a human face, the third was the face of a lion, and the fourth as the face of an eagle. Then the cherubim rose upward and their wheels moved with them. When they rose, the wheels stayed beside them, going with them as they flew. When they stood still, the wheels also stopped, for the spirit of the living beings was in the wheels.
The glory of the Lord moved from the door of the Temple and hovered above the cherubim. And as Ezekiel watched, the cherubim flew with their wheels to the ease gate of the Temple. And the glory of God hovered above them. These were the same living beings that Ezekiel had seen beneath the God of Israel when he was by the Kebar River.
BIBLE NOTES SHOW:The glowing coals scattered over the city represented the purging of sin. Shortly after this prophecy, the Babylonians destroyed Jerusalem by fire.
HOW DOES THIS CHAPTER RELATE TO US TODAY? God's glory had to depart from the Temple because the people had so defiled it. So he had to destroy the Temple. God had to completely destroy what the people had perverted in order for true worship to be revived.
This whole story is a warning to us to be faithful and follow God and he will never abandon us.
Yours in Christ,
Mary
