Peace and prosperity are coming

JEREMIAH    CHAPTER 33

While Jeremiah was still confined in the courtyard of the guard, the Lord gave him a second message. The Lord said to ask him some remarkable secrets about what is going to happen in the city. For though the walls had been strengthened against the seige, the Babylonians would still get through and the men of the city will be killed. The time would come when he would heal Jerusalem's damage and give her peace and prosperity.

The Lord said that though the land was now desolate, it would once more see shepherds and once again their flocks will prosper.  And, says the Lord, the day will come when he will do for Israel and Judah all the good he promised. He will bring to the throne of David, a righteous descendant. For David will forever have a descendant sitting on the throne of Israel and there will be Levitical priests to offer burnt offerings and sacrifices to the Lord. These things would hinge on the people not breaking any covenant.
the Lord says he would never abandon the descendants of Jacob or David , but will restore them to their land.

HOW DOES THIS CHAPTER RELATE TO US TODAY? Do you realize the power of the Lord? He could have restored Jerusalem with the wave of his hand. But he wanted to show the people the meaning of his message: that because of their sins, he punished them.

God told Jeremiah that he had only to ask and he would answer. Don't you agree that he would do the same for us? He is always ready to answer our prayers, but we must ask for his assistance. The reason we must ask, is that then we are acknowledging that he alone is God and we cannot accomplish anything with our own strength alone. When we ask, we humble ourselves and we show him our willingness and that we are determined to obey him.

You know that Christ is mentioned again in this chapter. Hundreds of years before his birth. Isn't that mind-blowing?

Yours in Christ,
Mary
