JEREMIAH CHAPTER 10
Hear what the Lord says, Jeremiah tells the people: Do not be like nations who read their future in the stars and don't be afraid of their predictions. These are foolish. They carve an idol, decorate it and hammer it so it won't fall down. It can't walk, it can't speak and won't do anybody any good.
The only true God is the living God. He is the everlasting King and the whole earth can tremble in his anger. Verses 12 though 16 are Jeremiah's description of our God.
But now God speaks of coming destruction and tells the people to prepare to leave, a siege is about to begin. No one is left to help God rebuild the cities. Here Jeremiah uses the analogy of nomads wandering the wilderness.
Here also Jeremiah prays to God and asks that he be gentle. He asks God to pour out his wrath on the nations that refuse to recognize the Lord.
HOW DOES THIS CHAPTER RELATE TO US TODAY? Folks in ancient times wanted to know the future, so they tried reading the stars. But we must not trust the stars even in our time. We must instead trust the one who created the stars.
In ancient times, the people prayed to a carved idol, a chunk of wood. But those who are wise today, know that our idols won't save us. Only God is real.
Tricks with astronomy and false idols won't direct our lives. Only God can do that. He can give you wisdom and protect you. Only God will give you the right path, the right choices. Praise be to him!
Yours in Christ,
Mary
