The Lord heals King Hezekiah

ISAIAH   CHAPTER 38

Hezekiah became deathly ill and Isaiah went to visit him. He gave the king the message from the Lord that he should get his affairs in order and be prepared to die. Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed and told the Lord he had tried to be faithful. Then a new message came to Isaiah from God and it said that God had heard his prayers and seen his tears. The Lord would add fifteen years to his life and would rescue his city and help him defend it. And it would be a sign that the Lord would fulfill this promise by causing the sun's shadow to move ten steps backward on the sundial of Ahaz; and so it happened.

When Hezekiah was feeling well, he wrote a wonderful poem about his experience and it can be found in verses 10 through 20. It speaks about his potential death and how he turned to the Lord and the Lord restored his health and let him live. Also and most important, the Lord's promise healed him and he would sing praises to the Lord with instruments every day in the Temple.

BIBLE NOTES SHOW: The chronology of events is backward;chapters 38 & 39 occurred before 36 & 37.

HOW DOES THIS CHAPTER RELATE TO US TODAY? In his poem of praise, Hezekiah the king spoke of passing the joy of the Lord from generation to generation. Even in today's time, we know the heritage of our faith has come to us because of faithful people who carried God's message to us over the centuries.  It is important to share our faith and God's message to our children. Do you share with your children or other young people? Please do so. Share the excitement of having a relationship with God.  It is a pleasing and happy thing to do and helps spread the word of God.

Yours in Christ,
Mary
