ISAIAH CHAPTER 15
Isaiah tells of a message he received concerning Moab. It said that the cities of Ar and Kir would be destroyed. The people in Dibon would mourn at their temples and shrines, weeping for the fate of Nebo and Medeba. They would shave their heads in sorrow and cut off their beards. They would wear sackcloth and wander the streets. From every home would come the sound of weeping. The cries from the cities of Heshbon and Elealeh would be heard far away. The bravest warriors of Moab will cry out in utter terror.
Isaiah's heart weeps for Moab. Its people flee to Zoar and Eglath-shelishiyah. Weeping, they climb the road to Luhith. Their crying can be hear along the road to Horonaim. Even the waters of Nimrim are dried up. The refugees take only the possessions they can carry. The whole land of Moab is a land of weeping from one end to another. The stream near Dibon runs red with blood, but still, the Lord says he is not finished with Dibon. Lions hunt down the survivors.
BIBLE NOTES SHOW:
Moab was east of the Dead Sea. the moabites were descendants of Lot through his incestuous relationship with his older daughter. Moab had always been Israel's army.
HOW DOES THIS CHAPTER RELATE TO US TODAY? Once again the Lord proves his promise good and strikes down those that treated Israel harshly. It was interesting to see a story from Genesis come back to haunt the Moabites - the story of Lot's incestuous relationship with his daughter and the resulting descendants.
It only goes to show that we don't always see how things will play out - we don't always see the results. But they come, sometimes centuries later. Rest assured they do come back.
Yours in Christ,
Mary
