Messiah from David's line

ISAIAH CHAPTER 11

Isaiah told the people that a stump of David's family would grow a new branch bearing fruit. And the Spirit of the Lord would rest on him, as well as wisdom, understanding, counsel, might, knowledge and the fear of the Lord. He would delight in obeying the Lord and never judge by appearance, false evidence or hearsay. He would defend the poor and exploited and rule against the wicked and destroy them with the breath of his mouth. He would be clothed with fairness and truth.

In that day, the wolf and lamb would live together . . . and a little child will lead them all. And as the waters fill the sea, so the earth will be filled with people who know the Lord. And on that day, the heir to David's throne will be a banner of salvation to all the world. The nations will rally to him and the land where he lives will be a glorious place. Then the Lord will bring back a remnant of his people for the second time, returning them to the land of Israel from Assyria, Lower Egypt, Upper Egypt, Ethiopia, Elam, Babylonia, Hamath, and all distant coastlands.

He would raise a flag among the nations for Israel to rally round and gather the scattered people of Judah from the ends of the earth. Then at last the jealousy between Israel and Judah will end. They will join forces to swoop down on Philistia and together they will attack the nations to the east and occupy Edom, Moab and Ammon. The lord will made a dry path through the Red Sea. He will wave a hand over the Euphrates River sending a mighty wind to divide it into seven streams that can easily be crossed. He will make a highway from Assyria for the remnant there, just as he did for Israel long ago when returned from Egypt.

BIBLE NOTES SHOW: A golden age when children play with dangerous animals has not yet taken place. Such perfect tranquility is possible only when Christ reigns over the earth. Just as the different points of location for the remnant show that they will be gathered when Christ comes to reign over the earth.

HOW DOES THIS CHAPTER RELATE TO US TODAY?
Aren't we all quick to judge others? Often we base our judgments on appearance or hearsay. This chapter reminds us that only Christ can judge with fairness and truth. He is the only perfectly fair judge. Only he governs our hearts so that we can learn to be fair in our treatment of others.

In this Chapter, Isaiah is talking about a new or second exodus when God will bring his scattered people back to Judah and the Messiah will rule the world. Isn't it marvelous to read how he intends to do this by drying up the Red Sea and providing a way of return for his people? I hope that when the Messiah comes again, we are able to rejoice and be part of the migration to his heart.

Yours in Christ,
Mary
