God asks Job unanswerable questions

The Book of Job Chapter 39-41

The Lord continues to challenge Job by asking him a series of questions regarding the traits of animals. Such as: Do you know when the mountain goats give birth? Who makes the wild donkey wild? Can the wild ox be tamed? Did you give the horse its strength or clothed its neck with a mane? Or give it the ability to leap forward like a locust? Are you the one who makes the hawk soar and spread its wings to the south?

Then the Lord asked Job if after hearing all these things, did he still want to argue with the Almighty. He asks Job, if he has the answers.

Then Job replies that he is a nothing and could never find the answers, so he would put his hand over his mouth in silence. And God answers from a whirlwind and tell him to brace himself because he has questions and Job must answer them. God asks Job if he is going to discredit God's justice and condemn him so he can say he is right? Are you strong like me, asks God, and does your voice have thunder like mine? So put on your robes of state and vent your anger and let it overflow. Humiliate the proud with a glance and walk on the wicked where they stand. Bury them in the dust, imprison them in the world of dead and even I would praise you, for your own strength would save you.

God asks Job to look at the hippopotamus; its powerful loins, muscled belly, bones like bronze, limbs like iron. Only the Creator could make or threaten it. It lays down hidden in the reeds and no one can catch it off guard or lead it away. God tells Job that if he caught a crocodile, would it beg for mercy?Agree to work for him? Could he make it his slave for life? Could Job make it a pet and let a child play with it? No, says the Lord, it is useless to capture it and who will confront me and remain safe? Everything under heaven is mine. God continues to describe the physique of the crocodile and how fearless it is and how it is the proudest and King of beasts.

BIBLE NOTES SHOW: God asked many questions in order to show Job how limited his knowledge really was. He was getting Job to recognize and submit to God's power and sovereignty because only then could Job hear what God was saying to him. God showed Job that as a limited human being, he had no ability to judge the God who created the universe.

HOW DOES THIS CHAPTER RELATE TO US TODAY? How do you argue with God?We all demand answers when things don't go our way. But next time you are tempted to complain to God, consider how much he loves you. Give God a chance to show you his greater purpose for you and remember it may take much time throughout your lifetime. Regardless of all of us being limited human beings, it is important to notice that God came to Job which demonstrates his love and care for him. He can do that for us too because his mercy knows no bounds and his love is everlasting.

Yours in Christ,
Mary
