Queen of Sheba pays a call

2 Chronicles Chapter 9

The queen of Sheba heard of Solomon's reputation and came to test his with hard questions. She arrived with a large group of attendants and great caravan of camels loaded with spices, gold and jewels. She and Solomon talked about everything she had on her mind and she soon realized Solomon was very wise. She saw the palace he built and was breathless, and equally impressed with the food at his table, the organization of his troops and splendid clothing of his cup bearers and burnt offering Solomon made at the Temple.

Sheba told Solomon that everything she had heard about him was true, but she needed to see it with her own eyes. She praised him for how happy he made his people and noted how great his God must be to place him on the throne. Then she gave him a gift of nine thousand pounds of gold, many spices and jewels. Solomon gave the queen of Sheba whatever she asked for and she returned to her home.

Solomon had great wealth given to him each year in the form of gold from merchants, traders, kings and governors of Arabia. With it, he made two hundred shields of hammered gold, and three hundred smaller ones. Then he made an ivory throne and overlaid it wih gold. All his drinking cups were gold, as were his utensils. His fleet of trading ships returned once every three years loaded with gold, silver, ivory, apes and peacocks. And thus he became richer and wiser than any other king on the earth.

BIBLE NOTES SHOW: Solomon ruled in Israel for forty years. When he died, he was buried in the city of David. Then his son, Rehoboam became the next king.

HOW DOES THIS CHAPTER RELATE TO US TODAY? Sheba was most impressed with Solomon's wisdom. He let his life be a powerful witness when other's could see his work. So Sheba was most intuitive to Solomon's true heart. Are you able to see the witness opportunities that the Lord sets before you? When people get to know you and ask you hard questions, will your response reflect God in your life? Let your life be a powerful witness for you. Let others see God at work in you!

Yours in Christ,
Mary
