Building the Temple

I Chronicles Chapter 22

David gave orders to call together the foreigners living in Israel and he assigned them the task of preparing the stone for the Temple of God. He provide iron nails and clamps and bronze, and cedar logs which the men of Tyre and Sidon had brought to David. David said his son Solomon was still young and inexperienced and he wanted the Temple to be a magnificent structure, so David collected vast amounts of building materials before his death.

David sent for Solomon and instructed him to build the Temple of the God of Israel to honor the Lord. He explained that he wanted to build it himself, but the Lord knew David had shed much blood and so his son Solomon would build it in his name and it would be established in Israel forever. David ask the Lord to give his son success in building the Temple and also give his son wisdom and understanding and that his son would obey the laws and regulations that the Lord gave to Israel through Moses. Further, David explained to Solomon that he had the best materials available to build the Temple and also had provided the very best skilled stonemasons and carpenters and craftsmen of every kind.

Then David ordered the leaders of Israel to assist Solomon in the project of building. He declared that the Lord had given peace to the surrounding nations and handed them to David and they were now subject to the Lord. He asked that the sanctuary hold the Ark of the Lord's covenant and holy vessels of the God.

BIBLE NOTES SHOW: God told David he would not be the one to build the Temple. Instead his son Solomon would do it. David graciously accepted the fact his son would have the honor and helped prepare the way.

HOW DOES THIS CHAPTER RELATE TO US TODAY? We should all take steps to prepare our children to find and fulfill God's purpose. Sooner or later our children will have to make their own decisions, but we can help them by supplying them with the proper tools, showing them how to pray and study God's word, the difference between right and wrong and the importance of church involvement. Some of us have not done a good job of preparing our children. But know that God sees everything including the intent in our heart. Pray that he will help our children see their purpose.

Yours in Christ,
Mary
