Moses song (Part 2)

Deuteronomy Chapter 32- (verses 28-52)

Verses 28-35 sing that Israel lacks sense and Moses wishes they were wise and could understand and know their fate. That they would know that the Rock gave them the power to chase out thousands of the enemy. That they would know the rock of the enemy is not like our Rock, even as their vine grows from the vine of Sodom. Their grapes are poison, their wine is the venom of snakes. The Lord says he will store up all these things and take vengeance and repay those who deserve it. In due time, their feet will slip and their day of disaster will arrive.

Verses 36-43 sing that the Lord will judge his people and will change his mind about his servants when he sees their strength is gone and no one is left, slave or free. Then he will ask, “where are their gods, the rocks they fled to for refuge?” He will have them ask those gods to arise and provide the people with shelter. Can the people not see, he is God and there is no other who kills and gives life, heals and delivers. So the Lord swears that he will sharpen his sword and carry out justice and vengeance on his enemies and his sword will devour the flesh and the heads of the enemy leaders. He will cleanse his land and his people.

Moses came with Joshua to recite all the words of this song to the people. He asked that they pass them on as a command to their children so they will obey the law of God. By obeying them, he said, you will enjoy a long life the Promised Land. That same day, the Lord told Moses to go to Moab to Mount Nebo and look out over Canaan, the land he was giving the Israelites. Then God told Moses, he must die there on the mountain and join his ancestors.

BIBLE NOTES SHOW Moses urged to the people to think about God’s word and teach it to their children. When you discover the wisdom of God’s message, you should apply it to your own life and pass it along to your family and others. Moses isn’t gone yet, he has two more chapters of giving lessons before his death.
I urge you to read the entire song of Moses. It is the history of the people of Israel from their roots in Egypt until they reached the Promised Land.

How does this chapter relate to us today? This is our history too. This shows the God of anger and the same God who would take revenge for those who worship other gods. Don’t think that our God who knows compassion and grace can’t be angered. Even in this day, he can be riled. But he is a forgiving God. Pray that you never see the anger of God, only the compassion and love he offers. Praise be to God!
Yours in Christ,
Mary
